Biography
Hannah Laing is the champion of the doof. Born in the nineties to two hardcore raver parents and immersed in a household powered by house and trance music, it was almost fate that years later she would firmly cement her position as the people’s pride of Scotland.
Hard graft is at the centre of her world. Her first season in Ibiza at the age of 18 demonstrated this from the outset when she landed a residency at a Scottish bar which – to this day – she affirms as the real spot where her DJ craft was honed. In true Hannah style, though, holding down the residency for three seasons, picking up gigs elsewhere on the White Isle and putting in the hours as a dental nurse back in the UK simply wouldn’t suffice. Lessons from a fellow season worker swiftly immersed her into the world of production, and soon enough an edit of Sophie Ellis Bexter’s ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ – merely crafted with the intention of being a DJ set tool – had been magpied by renowned global DJ Fisher with the track exploding in popularity.
Fast forward to now, and the burgeoning success of Hannah’s latest release ‘Good Love’ – which, not even two weeks after release, was one of the most Shazamed tracks in the UK – feels almost inevitable. She isn’t stopping there, however. Rave-ready cuts are firmly in the pipeline – so buckle up for a year soundtracked by Hannah Laing.
Over the years of curating her sound, Hannah is today notable for her high energy, bouncy techno output with teasing stabs of hard house and trance. To only define her by these three genres, though, would be unjust. Both her musical output and DJ sets are products of her surroundings, with meticulous attention paid to even the finest detail of her artistry, influenced by stellar names including Roger Sanchez, old-school Tiësto and Paul Oakenfold.
The last 12 months have been astronomical for Hannah. Only in August 2022 was she tasked with opening Patrick Topping’s iconic Trick stage at Creamfields North – an assignment which, when five minutes into her set the crowd went from empty to 12,000 strong, was swiftly dubbed a categoric success. Merely months later she sold out a headline UK tour, notably headlining the stellar SWG3, slowly but surely introducing the world to her iconic Doof.
This year Hannah played at Creamfields brand new main stage to over 30,000 people for one of the stand out sets of the entire weekend. Other highlight shows for 2024 include WHP, EDC Las Vegas, Trick Fest, Ibiza Rocks, Hi Ibiza and Fabric.
In the meantime, though, you’ll catch Hannah in her happy place, showcasing her hypnotic sound to the most immense crowds worldwide. From Glastonbury, to Creamfields, to everywhere in between; Hannah Laing is truly taking over.
